------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Books that were published for/about the BBC microcomputer. Sort order is by publisher (then by title? not yet done). Criteria to be included in this list are: - The book must be for/about the BBC A and/or B microcomputer, possibly containing sections with/about related machines from Acorn. Books only meant for such related machines do not qualify. Multi-format books (those that cover multiple machine types from various manufacturers) also do not qualify. - If it's a software manual, it will only be listed here if it was sold separately as well (quite a few Acornsoft titles). Perhaps these should be removed and put on a separate list? (only list the manuals that were not sold with the corresponding software packages such as graphs & charts, creative graphics, LISP, FORTH) Notes: - Problematical are books that are sold along with a tape containing all programs that are listed in the book. Should these be considered a software package, or not? The tape is not necessary to use the programs. Example: BBC's Toolbox. - Publisher sorting is a problem in many cases, as publishers were taken over (or changed name?), or books were republished by another publisher. Many Granada books can also be found as a Collins book for example (Granada became Collins in late 1984 or early 1985). I'll place these books with the publisher that printed it first (when I've sorted it all out...). - Sources I've used: information that people sent me, the internet, catalogues, actual books. - Accuracy of details: Prices can of course change but they don't often so prices on catalogues and the books themselves are usually right. Printing errors (number of pages in particular) are a concern as I've seen many in catalogues and on amazon.com, so an actual book is preferable for the information. Some books are updated without a new ISBN, for example the book "Practical programs for the BBC computer and Acorn Atom" by David Johnson-Davies exists in at least 2 versions. The first and a later one with an errata page added to the end of the book. I suppose it was worth it in 1985 if you didn't follow the reviews in magazines. ] - "BBC micro, Beginners' micro guides", Jonathan Inglis & David Nash (Illustrator), Jonos Marffy (Illustrator), Paperback 64 pages (26 july, 1984), Publisher: Collins; ISBN: 0246122609 - "Adventure games for the BBC micro", A J Bradbury, Paperback 240 pages (january 1985), Publisher: Collins; ISBN: 0003830802, gbp 6.95 [ techniques to make an adventure game yourself ] - "BBC micro B. data log", Roger Porkess et al, Paperback 64 pages (5 april, 1984), Publisher: Collins; ISBN: 0001975919 [ -> see also Cygnus books ] - "BBC micro wargaming", O N Bishop, Audrey Bishop, Paperback 160 pages (28 march, 1985), Publisher: Collins; ISBN: 0003830004 [ gbp 8.95 ] Cygnus books (is this part of Collins or later taken over by Collins?): ?ISBN? - "Data log programming book 1", Roger Porkess et al, Paper back 64 pages (1984), publisher: Cygnus books ?ISBN? - "Data log programming book 2", Roger Porkess et al, Paper back 64 pages (1984), publisher: Cygnus books Database publications: - "Getting started in BBC Basic, on the BBC micro & Electron", Mike Bibby, Database publications, pages?, 1985; ISBN: 0 948104 05 8 ?ISBN? - "Getting started in sound and graphics on the BBC micro", Paul Jones & Nigel Peters & Michael Noels, Database publications, pages?, 1985, ISBN?
