* presumably an error, instead of 83
*2 got defective, replaced by type1. Original was not a type 1, still had the original speaker/grill (type 2/type 3), and apparently was a type 2 as the speaker & wire correspond to the image on 8bs of the type 2 keyboard, not type 3. Update: The machine with serial
number 01-ANB03-5064351 verifies this, sort of. It could have been type 2a which is a variant of type 2.
*3 the first of these numbers is usually hidden underneath the keyboard, if not it may be underneath the main PCB (esp. on 1984 models).
*4 bold means the second line of the key strip is in bold face.
*5 PCB manufacturing date can be found on the reverse of the PCB, where the TV modulator is located.
*6 Very faint stamp of just the date, directly on the metal of the PS
Speaker grille types:
0 = early, thicker plastic top
1 = standard
2 = used on type 2/3 keyboards, which surround the speech socket (for support while pressing in a cartridge)
Note 1: Dates on the serial ULA should be disregarded if the video ULA is of the new type. In this case the serial ULA has probably been replaced by the older type as there were problems with the newer serial ULA, e.g. for basicode and these were replaced by the old ones if necessary...
Note 2: All the above machines had Basic2 and OS1.20 when I saw them. This does not mean the OS was 1.20 originally, as all machines had a DFS (or NFS for J.K.'s machines) which means an OS upgrade in case of 0.10 (will OS1.00 work with a DFS?). Example: machine AB 136458 originally came with Basic1 as it came with a 1986 Basic2 ROM, and upgrade manual. It also probably originally had OS0.1 in ROM as it came with a note from the importer about 1.0 being released later.
Note 3: part of the original box of machine with serial AB 154863 survived with serial number ANB01 154863, so machines up to say early 1983 apparently had no factory designator in the serial no (which I assume the numbers before ANBxx are).
